Cambodia truly is an incredibly rich country that exceeds expectations in its offering of amazing things to do. From the grand and evocative temples of Angkor Wat, to the vibrant street markets and intense culture, there is so much to explore and learn about in Cambodia.

Take a Trip to the Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat is arguably the best-known ancient temple in all of Southeast Asia. This Khmer relic is an ode to Khmer civilization and its rise and fall. Its sheer scale and grandeur is incredible and not to be missed. Make sure to visit the majestic towers, galleries and workshops, which depict incredible images of Avalokitesvara, Vishnu and Ganesha. A tour of Angkor Wat is a must-do for anyone travelling to Cambodia.

Discover the Gastronomic Delights of Cambodia

Cambodia is home to some of the tastiest dishes in Southeast Asia. From seafood-laden soups like the famous amok trey, to char-grilled meats such as stuffed frogs or grasshoppers, there are plenty of culinary delights to adventure upon. Don’t forget to try the famous Fish Amok, a creamy coconut curry with lemongrass and kroeung. Or perhaps take a crack at some palm sugar-based desserts such as Num Ansom Chek. Whatever your taste buds are craving, you are sure to find it in Cambodia.

Take in the Floating Villages of Tonle Sap Lake

Going by boat to visit Tonle Sap Lake on a lazy day is an unforgettable experience. The lake is ten times larger during the wet season than during the dry season and instantly transforms into a giant inland sea. Alongside its natural beauty, you can be amazed by the floating villages that come alive around sunset. Take a boat tour touring around Tonle Sap Lake and observe everyday life in those villages and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding nature.

Spend the Day at the National Museum

There is no better place to get to know Cambodia than at its National Museum. It houses some of the largest collections of Buddhist and Hindu sculpture in the world and richly illustrates the country’s religion, history and culture with over 14 thousand artefacts from different parts of Cambodia. The museum also houses other historical artefacts related to archaeology, anthropology and numismatics, and provides visitors with a comprehensive overview of Cambodia’s diverse culture.

Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda

The iconic Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are located in the heart of Phnom Penh. The palace was built in the late 19th century by King Norodom, while the Silver Pagoda was built later on by King Sisowath. Both edifices feature incredible architecture with detailed art. The palace’s Throne Hall is breathtaking, as well as its Green Palace adorned with thousands of precious gems. The golden statue at the Silver Pagoda is impressive beyond words, making even the most demanding art connoisseur speechless.

Take a Cambodian Cooking Class

Cambodian cuisine has its own distinctive flavour combinations of sweet and savoury spices, inspired by French, Chinese and Indian cuisines that left their mark on Cambodia over centuries. So why not learn a new skill and participate in a Cambodian cooking class? You will have plenty of fun while learning the basics of Cambodian cuisines such as making amok trey (fish curry) or savoury spring rolls. These classes are readily available in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap for either half day or full day.

Enjoy a Relaxing Cruise on the Mekong River

Witness beautiful sunsets while sailing on the Mekong river during one of its breathtaking cruises. Get ready for amazing views of the Cambodian countryside and local wildlife like birds, snakes and even crocodiles! Boats offer different packages like a traditional fishing raft or luxurious vessels where you can enjoy delicious freshly prepared food cooked right in front of you.

Explore Preah Vihear Temple

The Preah Vihear Temple is mostly known for its location perched atop a 525-metre cliff in the Dangrek mountains. It is considered one of the great wonders of Southeast Asia as it holds some exquisite reliefs that were unknown for hundreds of years as it remained unexcavated for so long. Trek through the dense jungle and up panoramic stone steps to explore this incredible sight.

Cambodia has so much to offer travellers looking for adventure, a relaxing getaway or to make a lasting impact while volunteering with Cambodian monks. The country has tons of activities for any type of traveller, from daring adventurers to those just looking for a taste of something different.
